List below are things that I took that I really used at the hospital.

  1. Baby Car seat- You want your baby to be safe on the drive home and the hospital will not let you leave if you don’t have the car seat.
  2. Something comfortable or cute to put on if you want to take pictures with your newborn. I preferred a dress. You do not want to put any type of pants on. If you have a vaginal birth, you will be sore.   (I had a vaginal birth.) If you have a C-section, I am sure you still do not want pants rubbing against your tummy area.
  3. Make-up and things for hair if you do not have a hospital ready style like braids. Everyone wants to look cute in their pictures.
  4. Large underwear for when you go home and to have at home, in order to accommodate the large pads they give you after a vaginal birth.
  5. Baby outfit with hat and socks for pictures and going home. I took my baby pictures the day we were going home.
  6. Nice body wash, lotion, toothbrush, and shower cap.

This is a really short list. I had a night gown, a robe, socks, clothes for each day, underwear, pads, wash cloth, baby clothes, baby bag, bottles, pacifier, diapers, wipes, baby toys, snacks, water bottle, and bathroom toiletries.

Looking at everything that I had in my bag was ridiculous.  Your newborn baby will not play with baby toys.  I did not change my clothes until I had visitors or for pictures. LOL
